“I have been singing for a while but I have not come up with an album as yet. When I was introduced to perform at the Book Café the audience was sceptical. This was because of the introduction I got as an experienced performer who has curtain-raised for the likes of Snoop Dogg, Pharell Williams, Sean Paul, Tinie Temper, Bow Wow and Rick Ross but I managed to impress the full house.”
He said he spent eight months working on the “Gladiator” that has now become a love anthem in South Africa.
The 24-year-old dancer-cum-musician revealed that “Gladiator” cannot be confined to one specific genre but it is a mash up of urban- electro -pop music.
The single has been launched in South Africa, Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania and is yet to be released in Uganda, Malawi, Nigeria and the UK.
Even though Mujaji has been based in South Africa for most of his adult life his lyrical content includes local vernacular languages Shona and Ndebele.
“For Gladiator the content is in Shona and Ndebele because I am trying to create a brand as a Zimbabwean which will reveal my identity easily,” said Mujaji.
Mujaji draws inspiration from everyday life experiences. He is determined to take over the international music scene
“It is not enough that I have been an opening act as a dancer for international artistes, when I look at internationally dominating artistes like Drake and Chris Brown only to mention a few they are met with no African response or competition so I am working on breaking the ground on that level,” said Mujaji.
Mujaji has had vocal training and has leant to play musical instruments the like of the piano. He has released mixtapes of bangers and mashups that have had thousands of downloads on Youtube , Sound Cloud. Party at my crib and Woza lavo are some of his previous hits.
