In her message, VP Mujuru described the late Ghanaian President as a great leader.
“We have lost a great leader. His untimely death came to us as a shock. We are in grief together and you are not alone during this depressing moment,” she said.
VP Mujuru said President Mugabe had also sent a message of condolence to the Ghanaian people expressing his grief and sorrow at the passing on of President Atta Mills.
She said Zimbabwe was ready to assist Ghanaians during these trying times and emphasised on the need to strengthen ties.
“Our relationship is not only sisterly or political, but we have a family relationship,” she said.
She said the relationship stems from President Mugabe’s late wife Amai Sally Mugabe who was not only a mother, but her close friend who mentored her.
“She inspired me. When I had my first baby she taught me how to look after my child,” she said.
Ghanaian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr James O Naadjie said burial arrangements were yet to be finalised, but the late leader was expected to be buried in Accra on August 10.
“We are still working on the finer details. We will make it public once we have finished with all the consultations still going on,” he said.
President Atta Mills died on Tuesday last week in Accra.
