Stacey Mujuru, a fourth-year Applied Mathematics student and owner of clothing brand – Sochara, has made history as she became the first female Student Representative Council (SRC) president at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).
As she takes the reins, Mujuru has pledged to prioritise student welfare, promote inclusivity, and foster a collaborative relationship between students and the administration.
“My goal is to ensure that students become wholesome individuals throughout their university life. I plan to bridge the gap between the administration and students, promoting inclusivity and creating an environment where students living with disabilities can thrive,” said Mujuru.
So far, she has identified key areas of focus, aiming to improve student life through enhanced resources and guidance.
She also plans to promote inclusivity and accessibility for students living with disabilities, ensuring that every student has an equal opportunity to succeed.
Mujuru intends to foster a collaborative relationship between students and the administration, encouraging open communication and feedback mechanisms to address student concerns.
“I believe in creating an understanding of a problem first in order to know how best to handle it. I’m prepared to continue engagements with the administration, along with my team, to improve student life,” she said.
Mujuru’s leadership philosophy emphasises emotional intelligence, active listening, and objective decision-making.
“I believe that communication is a key to success, and in that manner, hearing out the students to know first-hand what they need, sitting down with the administration, and communicating the needs of the students will help us find the best solutions,” she said.
Mujuru hopes to inspire other young women to take on leadership roles.
“To every young woman out there who aspires to be leaders, I encourage them to never hesitate or have self-doubt in chasing the dream. They must be eager to learn, and always be willing to take on new challenges,” said Mujuru.
Mujuru was born to be a leader.
She was Projects Coordinator in the Harare Junior Council (2019-2020) and Minister of Information and Publicity at NUST (2021-2022).
