Trust Khosa, Zimpapers Arts, and the Entertainment Hub

The supporting acts for Chimurenga guru Thomas “Mukanya” Mapfumo’s farewell gig in the United Kingdom next month have been announced.

Selmor Mtukudzi, Tocky Vibes and Lindsay Chamangura will join the line-up for the event, scheduled for August 23 at The New Bingley Hall in Birmingham.

The lineup was released today, confirming the participation of the trio alongside Mukanya’s nephew, Kurai Makore, who was previously announced.

MC Sebhelebhe will host the event, organised by Phab Entertainment and Chimurenga Music.

Makore expressed his excitement about sharing the stage with his uncle and the inclusion of more Zimbabwean artistes from his generation to honour the living legend.

“I can’t wait for this significant event in the UK, which means a lot to us back home. I was thrilled to see the additions to the lineup, allowing us to celebrate my father figure’s milestone together.

“Selmor is a good friend of mine and a seasoned musician, while Tocky has performed in the UK on several occasions,” he stated. “This is a celebration worth attending for all Zimbabweans in the United Kingdom and beyond.”

Show promoter Joab Mugugu of Phab Entertainment Promotions, known for organising significant events in the UK was enthusiastic about the preparations.

“We are honoured by the trust bestowed upon us by the legendary Mukanya, and we do not take it for granted. Anyone who knows him understands that he is a perfectionist, especially regarding sound quality. His rehearsals resemble a real show, so providing him with perfect sound is crucial,” said the promoter.
