A HARARE woman was granted a protection order against her son, a drug addict, citing allegations of harassment, verbal abuse and escalating threats of violence.

Ms Tsvakai Mwatse testified about the abuse she is facing at the hands of her son Nelson Zengeni, before the Harare Civil Court magistrate, Ms Johanna Mukwesha.

“My son is into drugs. Whenever he takes drugs, he harasses me. The drugs have transformed him into something else and he threatens to kill me,” she said.

She told the court that she was stripped of her belongings by her son due to drugs.

According to Ms Mwatse, trouble began several years ago after her son fell into the company of known drug dealers.

She explained that she wanted her son to vacate the premises as a way to maintain peace.

“He uses dangerous weapons so I end up fearing for my life,” said Ms Mwatse.

In her testimony, Ms Mwatse claimed that she tried to resolve the matter with her son but he would not listen.

Zengeni disputed allegations that he stripped his mother and used dangerous weapons.

“I do not use dangerous weapons but I can vacate the premises and go elsewhere,” said Zengeni.

He told the court that he is not violent with his mother, claiming that she only wanted him out of the house.

After both parties presented their testimonies, the magistrate granted an order in favour of Ms Mwatse.

Zengeni was ordered to refrain from harassing his mother and to vacate her house.
