Zimbabwe vice-captain Marshall Munetsi celebrated his 30th birthday with his football career standing as one of the country’s most inspiring modern success stories.
Munetsi, who was born on June 22, 1996, has risen from modest beginnings in Zimbabwe to play at some of the highest levels of European football, becoming one of the most recognisable Zimbabwean players of his generation.
His journey began in the lower leagues of local football before he moved to South Africa, where he turned out for Ubuntu Cape Town, Baroka and Orlando Pirates.
It was during his time in South Africa that Munetsi started to build his reputation as a hardworking and versatile midfielder capable of competing at a higher level.
The major breakthrough in his career came in 2019 when he secured a move to French Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims.
At Reims, Munetsi established himself as a key player, earning respect for his discipline, work rate and ability to influence matches from midfield.
His performances in France opened another major chapter in his career when he earned a move to English football, joining Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The move underlined his growing profile and confirmed his place among Zimbabwe’s leading football exports.
For Zimbabwe, Munetsi has become an important figure in the Warriors setup, serving as vice-captain and offering leadership both on and off the pitch. His international career has seen him represent the country in major assignments, including Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualifying campaigns.
Munetsi who is in the country on season break had a banquet to celebrate his birthday in Harare on Sunday.
Despite a running contract with Wolves, Munetsi is linked with a move away. He spent the last half of the season on loan at Paris FC in France.
