MARSHALL MUNETSI has had a very interesting start to life at Wolves.
The Zimbabwean star signed for the English Premiership football club on transfer deadline day, arriving from Reims after undertaking his medical in France.
Munetsi is primarily a box-to-box midfielder.
But with Joao Gomes and Andre such a strong pairing in Wolves’ engine room, he has not yet played in his natural position.
Munetsi has been deployed high up by Vitor Pereira, and in recent games he’s operated as a kind of inside right forward.
That’s seen him get into some great goalscoring chances – but thus far, he’s only got one goal for Wolves.
But the player spoke after the victory over West Ham United, and has insisted he will be working on his finishing.
Munetsi has drawn criticism from some fans recently for his lack of cutting edge in front of goal.
So far, he’s only scored one goal for Wolves, which came before the international break against Everton.
He’s had 11 shots in total so far across his six Premier League outings, and just three of those have been on target. He has struck the woodwork once.
Him scoring just once from these efforts means he has a conversion rate of just 9 percent so far (via Stat Muse).
Munetsi was speaking on Wolves Express after the game with West Ham on Tuesday night, and assured fans that he will be working on his finishing in training.
He said: “I think it’s something that I just have to keep on working. As a midfielder, when you get there with fatigue sometimes, you just have to remain calm.
“Today I couldn’t do that, but the most important (thing) is the three points we got today.”
Munetsi has the trust of coach Vitor Pereira.
Despite squandering several chances, Munetsi has remained a constant pick for Pereira.
It’s clear the Wolves manager likes what he brings to the table, with Pereira recently saying Munetsi had added “quality” to his side, along with Emmanuel Agbadou.
The physicality is what Pereira likes, and Munetsi certainly has a good work-rate.
After he signed, Pereira had said Munetsi ran the most in his first Wolves training session, and fans have regularly seen him busting a gut in games.
If Munetsi can just start being a bit more prolific then that would make him a serious, serious player.
That said, as he’s a midfielder by trade that potentially won’t come too naturally to him.
But Munetsi did show he had an eye for goal at Reims, scoring 21 goals. So perhaps Wolves fans have reason to be optimistic. – Molineux.news/Sports Reporter.
