A Victoria Falls Municipal police officer will rue the day he decided to sell a residential stand to two different people.
Obvious Nkomo (31) of 4 Old Rest Camp sold the residential stand to Mr Rufious Mwandina of Mkhosana suburb and a second person who was not named in court.
Nkomo pleaded guilty to fraud when he appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Ms Rangarirai Gakanje recently
Nkomo pleaded with Mr Gakanje to allow him to repay the money but the magistrate said it was impossible given his salary.
“You said you earn RTGS$1 800 a month and you are owing RTGS$8 000 and US$6 000. How will you afford to pay this debt?” asked Ms Gakanje.
For the State, Mrs Sithabile Daka-Mungombe said Nkomo who had sold the stand to someone else, sold the same stand to Mr Mwandina.
“On an unknown date but in April 2019, Nkomo entered into an agreement with Mr Mwandina to buy a residential stand in Mkhosana suburb. Nkomo told the complainant that he wanted RTGS$8 000 and US$6 000 for the stand. Mr Mwandina paid RTGS$8 000 into Nkomo’s bank account. On 17 April he paid the remaining US$6 000 cash and signed an agreement of sale,” said Ms Daka-Mungombe.
She said when Mr Mwandina went to the stand intending to drop building material, he found someone else doing the same at the property.
“When he asked Nkomo about the issue, he could not give a satisfactory answer,” said Ms Daka-Mungombe.
A report was made to the police leading to Nkomo’s arrest. — @nomvelosiziba.
