BEAUTY Munyai was simply unstoppable at the 2026 Evangelical Lutheran Church of Zimbabwe (ELCZ) Gala held at Chegato High School.

The Zezani High School tennis player produced a string of impressive performances to win the girls’ tennis title, defeating every opponent she faced and lifting the championship trophy without ever looking under serious pressure.

What made her achievement even more remarkable was her consistency. From the opening round to the final, Munyai won every match by the same 6-3 scoreline, underlining her dominance throughout the tournament.

The ELCZ Gala brought together learners from schools within the church’s education network, creating a competitive platform for young athletes to test themselves against some of the best talent from different schools.

While many participants delivered strong performances, it was Munyai who stole the spotlight in the girls’ tennis competition.

She began her campaign in the group stages against Masase High School. Showing confidence from the outset, she controlled the match and secured a comfortable 6-3 victory.

Her second group match against Mnene High School followed a similar pattern. Once again, Munyai displayed excellent shot-making and composure to claim another 6-3 win and secure her place in the knockout stage.

Having negotiated the group rounds without difficulty, the Zezani player entered the semi-finals full of confidence.

There, she faced Manama High School in a match that many expected to be a sterner test. However, Munyai maintained the high standard she had shown throughout the competition. She remained focused, dictated play from the baseline and closed out the match with yet another 6-3 victory.

The win booked her place in the final and left her just one match away from the title.

Standing between Munyai and the championship was host school Chegato High School, backed by home support and eager to lift the trophy on familiar courts.

But if the occasion brought pressure, Munyai showed little sign of it.

Displaying the calmness and discipline that had carried her through the tournament, she stuck to her game plan and refused to be distracted by the atmosphere. Point after point, she kept her opponent on the back foot, using accurate groundstrokes and consistent returns to gain the upper hand.

By the end of the contest, the result was a familiar one.
Munyai claimed another 6-3 victory to complete a flawless tournament and be crowned girls’ tennis champion.

Her triumph was met with celebrations from teammates, school officials and supporters who had followed her progress throughout the competition.

Observers at the tournament praised her ability to remain consistent under pressure, as well as her tactical awareness and determination on the court. Throughout the gala, she showed a level of maturity that allowed her to manage every challenge that came her way.

Just as impressive as her performances, however, was the manner in which she conducted herself during the competition.
Munyai earned praise for her sportsmanship and respect towards opponents, qualities that reflected positively on both her character and her school. Whether winning points or celebrating victories, she remained composed and humble.

For Zezani High School, the victory was a proud moment.
School officials described the achievement as the result of commitment, discipline and hard work. They also hailed it as a sign of the growing strength of tennis at the school.

The title not only adds to Zezani’s sporting achievements but also highlights the importance of investing in young athletes and providing opportunities for them to compete at a high level.

Sport continues to play an important role in schools by helping learners develop confidence, discipline and a competitive spirit.

Competitions such as the ELCZ Gala also provide a stage for talented young athletes to showcase their abilities and gain valuable experience.

For Munyai, the tournament provided the perfect opportunity to demonstrate her talent.
Winning one match can be impressive. Winning four matches in succession is even better. Winning all four by the exact same scoreline speaks volumes about the consistency and control she maintained throughout the competition.

By the time the tournament came to an end, she had defeated players from Masase High School, Mnene High School, Manama High School and host school Chegato High School. None managed to take more than three games from her.

It was a dominant performance from start to finish.

As celebrations continue at Zezani High School, Munyai’s achievement is likely to inspire other learners to pursue excellence in sport and strive to represent their school with the same determination.

The 2026 ELCZ Gala will undoubtedly be remembered for many memorable performances, but for Zezani High School, it will be remembered as the tournament where Beauty Munyai rose above the competition, winning every match, claiming the girls’ tennis crown and bringing home a title that her school can be proud of.
