‘Muporofita’ hits the street

TRIALS and tribulations faced by men of God in their quest to win souls and heal the downtrodden has been articulated in a new local blockbuster movie titled ‘Muporofita’.

Written by Melody Chitaka and directed by Owen Chirikure, the intriguing movie also tackles how soul ties and cults can attack, destroy or destruct determined and prayerful people.

The movie was split in three parts and the first part is now in the public domain, while the other two parts will be out before end of year.

Talented actors and actresses, Matthew Mapureti, Promise Munjoma, Blessing Saunyama, Enita Cherewo, Rumbidzayi Zvobgo, Khalima Muponda and Caren Sakupwanya, among others, feature in the film.

“The film was first published on our YouTube channel last week. We are excited with the response so far, particularly the overwhelming support we have received from local viewers.

“The feedback is also encouraging and we are glad that we packaged the message in a way that is intriguing and fascinating while carrying a lot of suspense, twists and turns,” said Chirikure.

Unpacking the synopsis of the film, Chirikure said: “Many men of God are tempted by material things and it is important for them to be strong and patient as they serve God.

“In a remote village, a prophet devoted to spreading the gospel and healing the community finds himself in dire financial straits.

“His unwavering dedication forces him into a precarious situation, relying on the goodwill of his congregants to provide for his family.

“Unbeknownst to him, a sinister cult lurks in the shadows, viewing him as a barrier to their dark activities within the village.

“One should prepare for a gripping emotional journey as lives hang in the balance.

“As tensions escalate and secrets unravel, the true cost of faith and devotion becomes painfully evident.

“Join us on this thrilling cinematic adventure, where the line between good and evil blurs, and the fate of an entire village rests on the edge of uncertainty.”

The film was shot at various locations in Muchena Village, Penhalonga.

Born in Bindura 33 years ago, Chirikure is a former police sergeant who traded his uniform for the camera and has been enjoying a rollercoaster journey in the film industry.

He attained a Media Studies degree at Zimbabwe Open University.

His journey to professional videography started four years ago with a debut production ‘Sungano’.

Chirikure then went on to direct other movies such as ‘Things Fall Apart’, ‘Written in the Stars’ which now has over 500 000 views, Maria Part One and Two and the Housewife Series.

He has done videos for prominent artistes such as Garry Mapanzure, Nutty O and Killer T.

He is the co-founder of Kreative Studios which was established in 2014 and later registered as CK Media in 2019.
