A MAJOR police investigation is underway after four dead bodies — three men and a woman — were found in an abandoned truck in Binga. They had all been shot.
Police responded to a report of a traffic accident near Ngongonye Bridge along Kariangwe Road early Monday – but it turned into a quadruple murder probe after all four victims were found with fresh gunshot wounds. One had been beheaded.

Police believe all four victims were killed and loaded onto a white pick-up truck which was then pushed into the road to fake a traffic accident.

National police spokesman Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi told Chronicle last night: “I can confirm that we’re investigating the circumstances which led to the discovery of four dead bodies along Kariangwe Road in Binga.

“Initially, the issue was reported as a traffic accident but police details attended the scene and discovered that the bodies had gunshots.”
Sources told Chronicle last night that police had found, in the vehicle, a motoring ticket issued by traffic police in Luveve to one Mudzimu — suggesting the truck was recently in Bulawayo.

Officers were working around the clock to identify the victims and piece together their last movements.
Investigators will also be seeking a possible motive for the horrific crime, and police sources say it is unlikely to be the work of a single killer.

Gun crimes in Binga are usually connected to elephant poaching — but shooting incidents usually involve game rangers, the police and poachers.

A Binga resident who spoke to Chronicle last night said locals were speculating that the four dead had arrived in the area on a mission to buy ivory, but things went sour ending in the killings.

Chief Supt Nyathi said: “All we can say for now is that police are conducting inquiries. It’s through these inquiries that we can say this is what happened.

“We appeal to everyone including the media to cooperate with the police. For now, what we have said is enough.”
