Fanie Terblanche (41) of Mokopane in Limpopo, was arrested around 5:30pm at OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg last Wednesday.
Zambian authorities handed him to their South African counterparts.
Terblanche stands accused of running over his wife of two months, Lizette Terblanche (45) around midnight with his bakkie in October 2006.
A few weeks before this, she reportedly told a family member she suspected he wanted to kill her.
He also allegedly ran over her aunt, Letitia, who survived. After his arrest and being granted bail by the High Court in Pretoria, he disappeared, said Lizette’s sister-in-law, Liesl Hobbs.
She recently decided to start a Facebook group called, “Help us find Fanie Terblanche – He killed my sister and is on the run!”
A woman in Livingstone, Zambia, whose friend had dated him, recognised him and alerted Hobbs.
Living in Zambia, he allegedly dated single women, moved in with them and let them support him financially.
Hawks spokesperson Colonel McIntosh Polela said Interpol officials had travelled with Terblanche to South Africa to hand him over.
He is expected to appear in court soon. – Sapa.
