Drunken man falls to death in mine shaft

Saddam Moyo’s body was discovered the following day in the mine-shaft, which is 50 metres deep.
Acting police spokesperson for Matabeleland South Province, Sergeant Loveness Mangena, said Moyo’s body was taken to Filabusi hospital mortuary.
She said a mine worker discovered the body at Billsluck Mine in Amazon area and alerted the police. Sgt Mangena said Moyo was last spotted on Monday night in a drunken stupor helping himself to a 750ml of hot stuff along with a friend.
“He then later left the kiosk alone without informing his colleague where he was going. However, the following morning he was found dead in a mine shaft at Billsluck by a worker who then reported the matter to the police. We suspect he could have staggered into the mineshaft.
“As police we would like to urge people to desist from excessively drinking alcohol as they risk their lives,” she said.
The incident comes a few months after another man from Figtree died after taking 750ml of hot stuff at a local beer outlet on Christmas Eve. A 61-year-old Beitbridge man also drowned in Whunga Dam while in a drunken stupor on Christmas Day.
