Murder suspects arrested in Kwekwe

TWO suspects believed to be artisanal miners have been arrested on allegations of fatally assaulting a colleague at a mine in Kwekwe following an altercation.

The two are Tinotenda Mushoriwa aged 35 and Christine Ngwarai aged 49.

Circumstances are that on July 15, 2025 and at around 10pm, the suspects had a misunderstanding with the victim at a Mine in Kwekwe and a fistfight ensued.

During the altercation, the suspects picked wooden logs and struck the victim on the head.

As a result, the victim collapsed and died.

The suspects then fled the scene.

A police report was made and a manhunt was launched.

The two were subsequently arrested and have since appeared in court, where they were remanded in custody.

In a related matter, Godfrey Smart, aged 31 and Jorum Rukara, aged 32, were also arrested by CID Karoi for murder.

Circumstances are that, on July 14, 2025, the informant, who was fetching firewood in a gum tree plantation, discovered a pool of blood along the path which stretches from Chinyerere Shops, Karoi.

The informant later came across the body of the victim in the gumtree plantation, prompting her to file a police report.

Investigations into the matter were instituted, leading to the arrest of the Godfrey Smart, who then implicated his accomplice.

Follow ups were made, resulting in Jorum Rukara’s arrest.

Further investigations revealed that on July 13, 2025 and at around 9 pm, the suspects were drinking beer in the company of the victim at Chinyerere Shops in Karoi when a misunderstanding over an undisclosed issue arose.

The suspects then murdered the victim before dumping his lifeless, naked body in a gum tree plantation.

They appeared at Karoi Magistrates Court where they were remanded in custody to July 29, 2025.

Criminal Investigations Department (CID) spokesperson Detective Inspector Rachel Muteweri said, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police applaud members of the public for supplying credible information that led to the arrest of the accused persons.”
