A 70-YEAR-OLD man was recently struck to death with an unknown object after refusing to buy beer for another patron at a bottle store in Zimunya.
The incident happened at Saunyama Business Centre in the peri-urban area of Mutare.
Charles Farai Musanga, who operated a grinding mill in the area died last week, a month after he had allegedly been struck with an unknown object by Tinashe Zimunya.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Norbert Muzondo confirmed the incident.
“Musanga and Zimunya were drinking beer at Saunyama Business Centre sometime in July. The two are not related. Tinashe demanded beer from Musanga but the latter told him he could not buy him beer. This did not go down well with Zimunya.
“He left the bottle-store and went to Musanga’s grinding mill. After 30 minutes, Musanga left the bottle-store and went to his grinding mill. Zimunya then pounced on him and struck him with an unknown object.
“Musanga’s son, John, received a phone call and was alerted that his father had been injured. John rushed to the scene and his father told him what had transpired. Musanga was rushed to Dangamvura Poly clinic before being transferred to Sally Mugabe Hospital in Harare. He was treated and discharged.
“On August 3, John reported an assault case at Chitakatira Police Base. On August 11, Musanga’s condition deteriorated and he was taken to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital where he died upon admission,” said Inspector Muzondo.
He urged people to settle their disputes amicably instead of resorting to violence.
