Forward Nyanyiwa in DUBLIN, Ireland
TALENTED contemporary music star, Andy Muridzo, is set to break virgin territory when he descends on Dublin, Ireland for a musical show at the celebrated Nelson Mandela Hall next month.
The historic show is slated for 16 December in Unit 4, Duleek Business Park, County Meath in Dublin.
Dubbed “Dublin Unplugged”, Muridzo, who will be backed by his group – Jeetaz Band – will share the stage with South African group Sdala B and Paige.
Event organiser and Chikandamina Promotions proprietor, Charity Mukwasani-Emmanuel, said it’s all systems go for the December festive show.
“I can safely say that we are putting everything in place to have a flawless event and it promises to be a great occasion.
“We have done our homework very well and everything is in place with still a month to go, so basically, it’s all systems go,” she told H-Metro in an interview.
She said although Winky D once came to Ireland some years ago, Muridzo is literally breaking new ground for Zimbabwean artists since Ireland is not a traditional hunting ground for them.
“Muridzo is literally opening an untapped hunting ground. We know Winky D came to Ireland some time ago, but the Zimbabwean community was not as visible as it is now.
“So, Andy is only venturing into virgin territory, and we hope it is the start of another foreign destination for several Zimbabwean musicians in the future.
“The Zimbabwean community has been significantly rising over the past two years and we believe they are thirsty for home artists.
“Most of the time, they are forced to travel to England for musical shows but this time it’s “home”, she said.
Speaking to this publication, through his publicist Ronald Mujuru, Muridzo said he is over the moon to be visiting Ireland for the first time and promised to give a spirited act.
“I am delighted to be traveling to Ireland to perform and the pressure comes with the fact that it is a first time to play there but l will give it my best.
“I want to make sure that my fans there won’t miss home, and everyone has to be there.”
“I know I have fans throughout the world and all my career l have been to UK twice so this is the time to give them some early Christmas joy.
“This is an opportunity to re-ignite my foreign forays and it’s going to be lekker.”
Andy also promised to play songs as per fans requests:
“l will play all the hits from my previous albums and from the latest offering ‘Zunza.’
“The fans will enjoy their favourites because l will play anything requested, everyone has to be there.”
United Kingdom-based Kudzaishe Chipadza, of Wamambo Holdings, who are partnering Chakandamina Promotions, said they decided to rope in Muridzo because of his talent and appeal to most diasporans.
“Andy Muridzo is a talented musician who has a strong following and we have decided to grow with him.
“This is going to be a yearly thing and we want him to be part of all the future events,” he said.
He added that the South African duo of Sdala B and Paige will complement Muridzo in an all-Southern African affair.
“Sdala B and Paige are a big brand and since we have a lot of South Africans in Ireland, the show will be a celebration of diverse music cultures as we celebrate the African theme.
“It will be a top-drawer event.”
Emmanuel said the event will start around 10 pm until the following morning.
Beverages will be sold inside and there will be cash counters.
“The show will start at 10 pm into the following morning and beer will be sold at the venue.
“There will be cash counters for beer sales. Tickets are available online and as of now some of the tickets are already sold out.”
Muridzo has seven albums to his name, Kubuda Kwe Zuva, Ngarizhambe (2016), Tichambotendera (2017), Munondo (2018), Shiri Ya Mambo (2019), Sango ne Dziva (2021) and the latest offering Zunza (2022).
