YOUTH, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Minister Christopher Mushohwe, has challenged companies that bankroll Premiership clubs to build their own stadiums, offices and training facilities. He hailed Mimosa for the work they have done at Mandava. “Companies and clubs should emulate Mimosa in their rehabilitation and refurbishment of Mandava Stadium,” said Mushohwe.
“I am excited with the support of Mimosa and have made us proud as a nation.
“Mandava Stadium is something that you can take to Harare and I am very proud that it is one of the stadiums in the country that meets SuperSport standards and I wish we had many stadiums like this in all the provinces of Zimbabwe.”
Mushohwe toured the stadium yesterday and met FC Platinum gaffer Norman Mapeza and his players.
“The team has vastly improved, they are financial sound. I wish Mapeza all the best in the Confederation Cup.
“I am praying for them, I am behind them and I am confident they will lift the Zimbabwean flag high,” he said.
The minister was accompanied by Mimosa Mining Company executive chairman Winston Chitando and various Government officials.
Meanwhile, FC Platinum have confirmed that they will officially release left back Qadr Amini despite having registered the defender for their Caf Confederation Cup campaign.
Club spokesperson Chido Chizondo said the defender will not be part of their 2015 squad.
“What can we say, it is unfortunate that Amini is not going to be part of our squad. It is a wasted slot and we can only wish him the best in his move.
“FC Platinum are looking good and now that we are not going to play the team from Zambia we are thinking of organising a match against our local teams,” said Chizondo.
