AFTER a long journey trying to establish himself in the industry DJ Seth Diamond is ready to make his official debut.
Born Seth Moyo, in Bulawayo, he has been trying to get his break since 2008.
While waiting for this, he acquired professional DJ equipment from his brother in Ireland, which he used to learn to spin the decks at house parties, birthdays and weddings.
In his endevour to polish his newly found skills, Seth partnered local entertainment promoters in 2010, where he would hire out his equipment to them for international artiste shows.
“I have had a long journey and I am ready to come out and embrace this challenge. Music has always been an escape for me and I became immersed early in life,” he said.
Seth said while he partnered local entertainment promoters, they allowed him to play a few sets at shows, where he got a chance to share the decks with award winning DJ Oskido and Durban’s finest DJ Tira.
“Those are moments that I will forever appreciate, having a chance to play with the best. Them showing me how to spin the decks, that was an awesome experience,” said Seth.
Seth played as a curtain raiser for DJ Tira’s inaugural show in Bulawayo in 2010 at the Drive Inn, along the Bulawayo-Harare highway.
“The equipment I have is one of the best in the world and only a true and professional DJ can use it. Many people claim to be DJs because they play music from a laptop but can’t use turntables,” explained Seth.
Because his DJ equipment — Pioneer DJ M 800 was basically the only one in the city and the most original, Seth would hire it out occasionally to large shows such as the Kalawa Homecoming gigs and sometimes at clubs, where he too would occasionally play.
“While I would hire my equipment to promoters and clubs I would watch how the professional guys did it. I was learning from them.
“As I am ready to take on this challenge I am no longer hiring the equipment to people, as I would be using it myself,” he said.
Seth said that while he was dealing with promoters and other artistes he was also learning how to manage artistes.
“It’s been a learning experience for me. These past 8 years have taught me a lot,” added Seth. Seth mentioned that he drew his inspiration from South African award winning house DJ Black Coffee and local DJs Mellow T, Emity Smooth and Kead Wikead.
Seth too is a house music DJ.
