Gudza, who is affectionately known as Eglada in music circles, is expected to launch her seven-track album soon.
The album — titled “Tiratidzei” — talks about how people lose their way but realise their mistakes and seek divine intervention.
The 31-year-old revealed that her passion for music began when she was still very young.
She started writing songs at the tender age of 11, while she was in Grade Five.
She was an active member of the Chitungwiza Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) praise and worship team.
Her participation in the praise and worship team honed her singing skills as she often took part in various crusades held throughout the country. It was the late AFM leader Pastor Chiweshe, who encouraged her to pursue music as a career.
“The late Pastor Chiweshe encouraged me to take my music talent seriously, and looking back, I am glad I listened to his advice,” she said. Gudza sang alongside the vibrant gospel ensemble Mahendere Brothers, who took the country by storm with their 1998 offering “Hupenyu Wepanyika”, on which Gudza featured as a backing vocalist.
The former ZBC producer-cum-director was given a lifetime opportunity when former colleague Percy Mhara, who owns Lionwave Studios, assisted her to record her debut album last year.
She also paid tribute to music producer Remmington Mbeya and the Mahendere Brothers for nurturing her talent and passion for music.
While growing up, the mother of three lived at Chikurubi Prison where her father, Japhter Gudza, whom she described as “a pillar of strength,” worked before moving to Chitungwiza.
