Sulumani Chimbetu and Mathias Mhere have partnered Chivi Rural District council to build 12 homes for orphans in Masvingo.
Sulumani and Mhere will hold a gala at Mucheke Stadium at the end of this month to mobilise resources for the project.
Last week the musicians and Chivi RDC chairman Cde Killer Zivhu officially launched the housing programme at Madyangove Village in Madamombe communal lands in Chivi North.
They donated building material to Elizabeth Sithole worth over US$5 000.
Donated material included 28 bags of cement, roofing sheets, barbed wire, window and door frames.
The material would be used to build a three-bedroom house and a kitchen.
Speaking at the handover of the materials, Sulumani paid tribute to Zivhu for his willingness to help the poor.
“I want to challenge other leaders, be it in politics or business, to emulate what Zivhu is doing to help poor people not only in Chivi district but the entire country.
“We have many orphans who are struggling to make ends meet everyday and if we put our heads together we will cushion them from extreme hardships and restore hope in their lives. We are planning to stage a gala at Mucheke Stadium so that we raise more resources to build 12 homes for orphans,’’ he said.
Mhere said it was important to reflect on the lives of the underprivileged in society.
Chivi Ward 2 councillor Sanders Magwizi said council was fully behind efforts by Zivhu to assist underprivileged children saying 30 percent of families in the district were headed by children.
Zivhu said building houses for the underprivileged was in line with ZimAsset.
“Our President wants us to be self-reliant and work hard to improve our infrastructure, crop production and food security among other things.
“That is what Zim-Asset is about. We have to be masters of our destiny. Those are the principles of the Zanu PF leadership,’’ he said.
