ZIMBABWE international Knowledge Musona says that he is not very worried about his current dry spell as long as he is making a positive contribution to Kaizer Chiefs. Musona, whose rights are owned by German side TSG Hoffenheim, is on a loan spell to the South African champions where he rose to stardom before moving to Europe two seasons ago. The former Aces Youth Soccer Academy, who never played Premiership football in Zimbabwe, is confident that the game against Moroka Swallows tonight could be his platform to find his scoring touch again.
Musona has not scored this year, with the last of his six goals coming before the festive season during their 4-1 victory over Amazulu.
Yesterday, the former Young Warriors skipper told Kaizer Chief’s official website that he was not putting himself under pressure to score but wanted to contribute to the team.
“Even if goals don’t come I get joy from creating chances for my teammates to score. I rather, (would) be a team player than an individual player.
“For me it is not about the goals I score but about the team collecting the maximum points.
“If I don’t score, and for as long as the other players score, then that becomes a team effort. It’s all about a collective approach to the game,” he said.
As a striker, Musona said he was aware fans expect more from him and he gave assurance that he was doing his best for the team.
“I am aware the supporters are always looking for something special to come from my play. For now I am playing with all my heart and trying my best.
“The goals will soon come,” he said. Musona said he had come close to getting goals on a number of occasions but feels that the match against the Dube Birds tonight maybe a turning point.
“There are 20-plus odd games remaining in this season. As you might have noticed I have created numerous goal-scoring opportunities but the goalkeepers have been equal to the task.
“I am working hard to find the right target.
“It is just a matter of time and luck, the goals will come. Who knows, probably they will start coming against Swallows,” he said.
