WARRIORS frontman Knowledge Musona scored his first goal for Kaizer Chiefs since returning from Germany in a 2-0 defeat of Terrence Mandaza’s Maritzburg United in the Absa Premiership on Saturday night. The 23-year-old who also netted in Zimbabwe’s 2-1 friendly victory over South Africa last Tuesday, struck a first-half opener with substitute George Lebese also on target at FNB Stadium.
Musona, though, left the field late in the game with a stomach muscle problem, raising doubts about his availability for today’s trip to Bloemfontein Celtic.
Musona has been enjoying some game time for the Naturena side who are the reigning champions but had been firing blanks since his return.
Another Warriors strongman Willard Katsande was at his usual best while Kingstone Nkhata was yellow carded before being substituted for Lehlohonolo Majoro with seven minutes of playtime left.
Steward Baxter, Kaizer Chiefs coach, was full of praise for the Aces Academy graduate.
“Knowledge has been looking sharper at training. He scored in a friendly against (Mpumalanga Black) Aces, he scored in the national team and now he scored today. It looks like he’s landed,” the coach was quoted saying by the South African media.
It was a good day on the field for former Highlanders goalkeepers Tapuwa Kapini and Washington Arubi whose sides recorded 2-0 and 1-0 wins respectively in the South African Premiership.
Arubi’s University of Pretoria, which is also home to another former Bosso star, Obadiah Tarumbwa, beat former Dynamos player Roderick Mutuma’s Bloemfontein Celtics 2-0 while Kapini who recently acquired permanent South African residence, was in fine form as AmaZulu emerged 1-0 winners over visiting Moroka Swallows.
Big Carlington Nyadombo was taking care of business just in front of Kapini.
Former Hwange, Shabanie Mine and Caps United player Method Mwanjali was shown a yellow card in the 79th minute as his Mpumalanga Black Aces side held former champions SuperSport United to a 1-1 draw.
In Europe, Vusa Nyoni’s Jupiler league side in Belgium, Mons earned their second point of the season when they held visiting Waasland-Beaveren to a 1-1 draw with the former Highlanders leftback coming in for Richard Soumeh from Guinea.
KV Oostende, home to former Caps United and Mamelodi Sundowns forward Nyasha Mushekwi were 2-4 losers to Standard Liege although the big forward was not part of the team.
Former Motor Action player Quincy Antipas, enjoying game time in Denmark, helped his club Brondby to a 2-1 home win over OB.
Mike Temwanjira and Costa Nhamoinesu’s Romania and Czech Republic sides were in action last night. Temwanjira plays for Vaslui in Romania while former AmaZulu of Zimbabwe’s Nhamoinesu is a regular at Sparta Praha in the Czech Republic.
