FORMER Zimbabwe national football team captain Knowledge Musona has completed a move to newly-promoted Saudi Arabian outfit Al Riyadh.
The forward, who celebrated his 33rd birthday yesterday, has been playing for Al Tai in the same league since 2021.
The move is on the back of an impressive personal campaign that saw the striker contribute nine goals and nine assists from 30 appearances across all competitions, edging out even Cristiano Ronaldo’s contribution of 14 goals and two assists.
Despite a ninth place finish in the Saudi Pro League, Musona was a key figure for Al-Tai donning the captain’s armband and featuring in all but one fixture during the season.
For all his efforts, Musona was unable to help his Al-Tai who last won a match in April and were defeated in all of their last five league matches, their worst run since the start of the campaign.
The former Zimbabwe Warriors captain was set to become a free-agent at the start of July with his current deal with Al-Tai expiring at the end of June.
Musona now joins newly promoted Al-Riyahd who finished fourth in the Yelo League (Saudi First Division) and were the last team to seal promotion to the Saudi Pro League, eight points behind Pitso Mosimane’s title-winning Al-Ahli.
With an influx of some of the world’s best players sealing a big money move to the Saudi Pro League, the 23/24 campaign promised to be exciting for Musona and some of the world’s elite including N’Golo Kante and Hakim Ziyech among others. — Kickoff/ Sports Reporter.
