Simba Bhora skipper, Walter Musona, says he will not be sorry should his ploy to floor FC Platinum succeeds in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League top-of-the-table clash at Mandava tomorrow.
It is the match of the weekend, pitting log leaders FC Platinum against third-placed Simba Bhora, as the season heads toward the halfway stage.
And, it’s going to be an emotional return to Mandava for Musona, who has only coach Norman Mapeza to thank for rescuing his career.
Mapeza bailed the 28-year-old, three seasons ago when his future appeared bleak as he suffered rejection from Mzansi’s suitors.
But, at a time he was considering throwing in the towel, Mapeza handed him a contract at Mandava and he paid him back by powering the Zvishavane side to their fourth championship on the bounce.
And, he also became the first AYSA graduate to win the Castle Lager Premiership Soccer Star of the Year that season.
Musona has been a regular feature in the Warriors squad since his return from South Africa.
Mapeza had also coached him at the same club before joining DStv Premiership side, Polokwane City.
Nothing is the same anymore, Musona has now unlocked a new version of himself and he is plotting Mapeza’s downfall at his new base.
He told Zimpapers Sports that he considers himself lucky to be coached by Mapeza but insisted that tomorrow’s encounter is nothing but war.
“There was a time I was down and Mapeza rescued my career and I will be forever grateful for that.
“He played a big role for me to be where I am now, he was very patient with me and I will also consider myself a bad student if I don’t inspire my teammates to claim a positive result.
“FC Platinum plays as a team and for us to match them in every department, we have to do what they do and make use of our chances, that’s the only way we can get something positive,” said Musona.
“It’s very easy to plan against FC Platinum because everyone knows how they play but for us to get something every-one has to be involved throughout the game.
“It’s going be an interesting match because we all know what is at stake, we are both in the top four which means there is everything to play for.
“I have a father-and-son relationship with Mapeza and I know he is very happy with the progress I have made since my return from South Africa.”
Simba Bhora also have Perfect Chikwende in their firing line who spent a few seasons at Mandava.
They also have Blessing Moyo, who was also at Mandava when they won their last championship.
Mapeza’s men are calling the shots in the championship marathon with 31 points from 15 attempts.
The Shamva side are sitting in third position, just four points off the mark.
