HONDE Valley is known for housing majestic tourism sites such as Mtarazi Falls, which is one of the steepest falls in Africa.
It is also one of the premier birding destinations in Zimbabwe and boasts of a wide range of indigenous and exotic species that may be difficult to find in other parts of the region.
It also boasts of fertile soils and charming weather conditions.
Then there is the issue of talented artistes such as Trymore Bande and Benny Hadassah Muzanamombe.
The valley is home to another gem, Jairos Mutambikwa, who on Saturday launched a DVD album at a colourful and exhilarating event at Courtauld Theatre.
For a gospel artiste who mooted his music career in Samutete Village with a debut album titled ‘Humambo’ in 2016, the launch was historic.
Although Hosiah Chipanga and Obert Chari who were billed to perform at the launch could not turn up for the event for various reasons, the event was a great success.
The highest bidder of the album was business mogul and Big Rock Logistics director, Blessing Tendai Mangwiro, who bought it for US$2 000.
Mangwiro urged artistes to keep preaching and moulding the society through music.
“I am glad to be part of the event. I applaud the role being played by artistes to fight drug abuse.
“This is becoming a menace and I will continue working hard, even if it means working with artistes to fight this scourge. I urge artistes to remain united,” he said.
Blessing Shumba also graced the event.
Mutambikwa and his entourage put up a flawless performance and performed several songs.
The Mcees, Diamond FM’s Speedo ‘The Sassy Bae’ and Blessing Makomeya made sure that the atmosphere remained electric, thanks to their eloquence and verve on stage.
Speaker after speaker spoke glowingly of Mutambikwa and his sterling work in the community, both as a musician and as Mutare City’s Ambassador.
Mutambikwa assisted a visually impaired couple that sings near Chicken Inn along Mutare’s Main Street to produce an album.
The elated Mutambikwa said: “I want to thank God for the successful DVD launch. The environment was electric and I am happy that our music is reaching places.
“I am very humbled to have other artists supporting me.
“I would also want to express my sincere gratitude towards the business community who are slowly starting to believe in local content, they are coming in to support local artists,” said Mutambikwa.
