THE City of Mutare has appointed Engineer Maxwell Karenyi as its substantive director for engineering and technical services after the position fell vacant six months ago. Eng Karenyi joined the local authority on July 3 and his arrival brings the number of substantive heads of departments running the affairs of the City of Mutare to five.
Eng Karenyi brings vast experience obtained from several local authorities including Beitbridge, Chitungwiza and Harare.
Mutare City Council’s public relations officer, Mr Spren Mutiwi, told The Herald that Eng Karenyi was joining “a vibrant management team” at Civic Centre whose focus was to restore sound and effective service delivery to all residents and stakeholders.
“Only the director of finance is yet to assume his duties to make a full complement of six substantive heads of departments,” he said.
“Eng Karenyi’s appointment comes after the retirement of the former director, engineering and technical services, Engineer Donald Nyatoti.”
Mr Mutiwi called on all stakeholders to work together with the local authority and help build a better Mutare.
Eng Karenyi superintends over water production and distribution, sewer management, provision and maintenance of road infrastructure, provision and maintenance of public lighting, management of transportation system among others.
“Eng Karenyi’s coming will help beef up the team of managers,” said Mr Mutiwi. “There are six departments and only one position is still vacant. In fact, the position has already been filled but the candidate is yet to arrive.
“All positions being filled now were being occupied by people in acting capacity for a very long time. There has been no substantive city engineer for the past six months.”
