MUTARE Board and Paper Mills are once again the men’s champions of the Ingwebu Tug-of-War Championships, with Glow Petroleum A winning the ladies’ contest, in the finals held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) arena yesterday afternoon.
Winners in both categories took home US$1 000 in the competition that was sponsored to the tune of US$17 000.It was a closely contested men’s final that finished 2-1 in favour of the visitors.
The championships had to pull all their might to quash Bulawayo Metro.
Mutare Board and Paper Mills etched a record of their own at the annual competition that they have dominated.Yesterday morning, the teams clashed in the quarter-finals at Gifford High School.
The semi-finalists moved to the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre main arena in the afternoon.
In the women’s battle, Glow Petroleum A met Glow Petroleum B in the semi-finals. Other semi-finalists in the women’s category were ZPC Munyati and BCC A.
Glow Petroleum B won bronze after beating ZPC Munyati.The silver medallists in the men’s category, Bulawayo Metro beat ZETDC Western in the semis.ZETDC were the third best team in the men’s division, beating Zesa Holdings.Going for the bronze in the women’s clash was Glow Petroleum B who pulled the rope well against ZPC Munyati.A total of 45 teams registered for the competition.
