MUTARE City Council has made four executive appointments including a substantive health director to superintend the department, which had gone for nearly two decades without a boss. Dr Antony Mutara has been appointed director of health services while Engineer Zivanai Nezomba has taken over as roads engineer.
Mrs Emma Chivaraidze-Mandiziba takes over as the new director of housing and community services while Takunda Victor Nyamandi was recruited as the legal officer.
Speaking at a press briefing held last week at Civic Centre, town clerk, Mr Joshua Maligwa said they were looking forward to bringing results with the new appointments.
“This was a clarion call from the institution to bring sanity and confidence to the residents of Mutare and try to answer the question of service delivery,” he said.
Mr Maligwa added: “With the coming in of a medical practitioner, at least he will help the department, which had almost gone for nearly 20 years without being manned by a medical doctor.
“We have a fully-fledged health department with about 400 employees including 75 nurses.
“We have a sister-in-charge who is responsible for clinics’ staff and four hygiene officers and technicians.”
He was also optimistic that the new housing director would also bring sanity to the department and address challenges that were bedevilling council in issues of land.
“Residents of Mutare will now be able to access housing services and it is our hope that she will bring fairness to the fraternity.
“We are also happy that our roads will now be looked into since we have a capable person in charge of that department,” he said.
Mutare mayor Councillor Tatenda Nhamarare and chamber secretary Mr Cephas Vuta attended the briefing.
