SHE is one of the top models who survived death by a whisker after a bus she was travelling in veered off the road and overturned along the Mutare-Vumba Road in December 2019.
Nicole Musiyarira (25) was one of the models who were in boot camp as part of the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe beauty pageant which was to be held in Nyanga the next day.
The event was postponed indefinitely and this left Musiyarira, together with other models, heartbroken.
But it could have been worse as she and her colleagues could have lost their careers and possibly their lives.
Four years later, the lanky model is happy again.
Musiyarira, a former Africa University social work student, is set to represent Manicaland in the Miss Universe national pageant set for Harare on September 16.
She is a former Miss Africa University, a former Miss Tourism Manicaland and a former first runner-up for Miss Intercontinental Zim.
Musiyarira told Post Entertainment that she is excited to be representing the province in the national contest, before acknowledging that it will not be a stroll in the park.
She said she is preparing hard in preparation for the pageant.
“We did auditions online and I am happy that I was part of the top models who were selected among other beautiful ladies. During the selection process, they cut the number down from 25 to 12 models, and I am glad that I still made it among those selected.
“It is an honour, and I am working hard to make sure that the crown comes home. I know it will not be easy, but I am confident that I will make it,” said Musiyarira, who is under the Top Model Zim stable.
Born and bred in Mutare, the beauty queen says her mother is her source of inspiration.
“My mother is my source of inspiration. She teaches me to be strong and independent. She tells me that I was born for greatness, and that I should stretch myself and empower young ladies to make a difference in the society.
“I would also like to urge aspiring models never to take modelling as an opportunity to show off or get attention, but rather use it as a platform to address social issues that affect homes, communities and the nation at large,” she said.
Currently, Musiyarira is a media director specialising in media production, branding, marketing and social media management.
Miss Universe Zimbabwe is the official platform to select a representative for the global Miss Universe pageant.
The contestants represent Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces, including all Zimbabwean nationals living in the diaspora.
