Tsikayi appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura being charged with Criminal Abuse of Office as defined in Section 174 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

However, he denied the charges pointing out that the money he had received from the student, Tendai Mhande was for payment for extra lessons.

He was remanded out of custody on $50 bail awaiting trial.

Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

It is alleged that during the period extending from June 2015 to March 23, 2016, Tsikayi in his capacity as a lecturer and an examiner in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Mutare Polytechnic demanded $50 from Mhande.

The student was required to pay the required amount to facilitate his passing of the Engineering Drawing final examinations he was sitting for.

The money was transferred through Tsikayi’s Ecocash account number 0772941971.

The Ecocash print out was obtained by the investigation officers in respect of the accused’s Ecocash account number with the evidence of the $50 payment by the student.

The retrieved documents from Econet can be produced in court as an exhibit.
