A Mutare man will be caged for the next four years for assaulting two men and robbing them of their belongings.
Anesu Keith Sengasenga (23), of no fixed abode, was convicted by Mutare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe on his own plea of guilty.
He was sentenced to five years in prison of which one year was suspended on condition of good behaviour.
Prosecutor Mr Cuthbert Bhosha proved that sometime in March, Sengasenga, who was in the company of two accomplices who are still at large, met the victim, Stephen Mwaurisa (49), in Sakubva.
The gang started pelting Mwaurisa with stones and beating him up with sticks, with the result that one of the stones hit him on the head and he fell.
Sengasenga then pounced and took Mwaurisa’s belongings worth $950, leaving him lying in a pool of blood.
A police report was made and subsequent investigations led to Sengasenga’s arrest.
It was also proved that Sengasenga robbed another man on March 11 at around 2pm.
The complainant in the matter was coming from a bar in Sakubva when he grabbed him by the belt and searched his pockets.
He stole $150 cash and a cell- phone worth $20 as a result.
Police managed to recover the cellphone only.
