A HILLCREST College student who attained flying colours in her Cambridge Ordinary Level exams sat for November last year attained the highest mark worldwide in Travel and Tourism. Rachel Muyambo (16) got an A-star grade in Travel and Tourism, English, Chemistry and Literature and A grade in Biology, History, Physics and a B in Mathematics. However, it is her outstanding performance in Travel and Tourism that has earned her a place in the country’s history books after she scooped the highest mark in Travel and Tourism among the students who sat for the prestigious examination board tests last year worldwide.

In an interview, an elated Rachel, who is now doing Lower Six at the same school with a Science combination of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, said she was more comfortable doing sciences, but would one day pursue her dream of owning a chain of hotels.

“I think it was through God’s grace that I managed to achieve this. I started doing Travel and Tourism in Form Three and that is the level Travel and Tourism studies start.

“Initially, I had hopes of getting good results in all subjects and not only in Travel and Tourism, though I thought it is one subject I should get a high mark in.

“It is not that the subject is an easy one. No, it is just I had that vision of excelling in that area. It actually involved a great deal of thinking outside the box.

“Although I am now doing A-Level and majoring in Sciences, I still have hope to pursue my dream in the area of Travel and Tourism.

“I want to own a chain of hotels one day. I have a passion for sciences and I am really comfortable in that area.

“I think this achievement was made possible from the support I got from my teacher, Mrs Bridget Mhike. She was so wonderful and I will forever cherish the support I got from her,” she said.

In a separate interview, Mrs Anne Holman of Hillcrest College congratulated Rachel together with Corralee Hundermark who also attained one of the highest marks in the same subject in the country.

“I think it is an honour for the school and it is quite an achievement for the girls. Special thanks also go to the teacher, Mrs Bridget Mhike, for the good work she is doing. I think this is the first time that we have had a student get the best exam mark worldwide,” said Mrs Holman. – The Manica Post.
