THE 66th Mutare Teachers’ College graduation ceremony held today saw 1 273 graduates receive their credentials, amid applause for the institution’s transformation in embracing innovation and industrialization.
Of the total, 918 were females and 355 males.
The 2026 ceremony was held under the theme: “Transforming teacher education through innovation and industrialisation”.
Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Deputy Minister. Honourable Simelisiswe Sibanda said: “Mutare Teachers’ College is transforming into an innovative and industrial institution at a pace that confounds both critics and naysayers. This accelerated pace of transformation proves that Mutare Teachers’ College is, indeed, a Jewel of Excellence. We take pride in Mutare Teachers’ College’s efforts to innovate, industrialise and commercialise their innovations. Such efforts allow students to experience innovation and industrialisation as part of their curriculum. In this way, students acquire innovative mind sets without which it is difficult to imagine the country achieving the developmental goals that it has set for itself.
“We applaud this because we realise that it is only when students’ innovation and industrialisation instincts are nurtured in college that they will be able to innovate and industrialise after college and pass on the same instincts to generations that are to come. Your flagship, Komoyo Plant remains the referenced epitome of innovation and industrialisation in teachers’ colleges several years after its commissioning in 2024.
“The plant is a bar set too high for both yourself and other colleges. It is my sincere hope that students are actively involved in production processes at the plant.
“I would like, therefore, to assure the college that the ministry will continue to guide the transformative agenda in teachers’ college as the country steadily moves towards realising its developmental targets.”
Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affair and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza reminded the graduates that they are the foot soldiers in the education sector transformation and urged them to uphold ideals of patriotism and professionalism in execution of their duties.
He was represented by the director (policy coordination) in his office, Mr Joseph Mashingaidze.
