One of the country’s largest mining groups, Kuvimba Mining House, will this weekend host this year’s edition of the Inter-Mines Golf Tournament in Mutare.
The tournament is an important annual event on the calendar of the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe (CoMZ).
The event, which is popularly known as the Jumbo Golf Tournament, is slated for Hillside Golf Course in Mutare.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, CoMZ chief executive officer Mr Isaac Kwesu said the tournament provides mining firms with a platform to network and share critical information on how to improve productivity.
“This tournament will be hosted by Kuvimba and specifically their subsidiary, Freda Rebecca.
“The event brings together key participants on the mining value chain, including mines, suppliers, and all other important stakeholders,” said Mr Kwesu.
“They come together and share important information on how mining activities can be improved, specifically the efficiency, the procurement of materials, as well as pertinent policy matters that affect our mining industry.”
The mining industry is one of Zimbabwe’s major economic centrepieces, contributing over 75 percent of national exports. The country is seeking to achieve an upper-middle-income society by 2030, underpinned by the mining sector.
