SEASON Nine of the Big Brother Africa Hotshots reality show ended on Sunday and after 63-days in the house, it was Tanzania’s Idris Sultan who scooped the $300 000 grand prize.

Although the Zimbabwean duo, JJ and Butterphly had also written their own history in Season Nine, as the only two country representatives to go through to the finals, Africa voted otherwise and they lost out on the grand prize.

Idris became the third Tanzanian to win the reality show since its inception.

The final was down to Idris and Nigeria’s Tayo Faniran who was tipped to take it all, but nonetheless Idris emerged the winner.

Idris received five country votes from Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, while runner-up, Tayo received two country votes from Nigeria and Mozambique.

The rest of the finalists received country votes as follows: Zambia’s Macky2 got two country votes from Zambia and Rest of Africa, South Africa’s Nhlanhla also got two country votes from South Africa and Botswana, JJ got one country vote from Zimbabwe, while Malawi’s Sipe and Ghana’s Mam Bea also got one country vote each from Malawi and Ghana respectively, Butterphly sadly received zero country votes.

For the housemates who received the same number of country votes, the tie- breaker rule came into effect, which saw the exit of all the other six housemates, except Idris and Tayo.

With Nigerian, Zimbabwean and South African contestants having always dominated Big Brother Africa in the past, it was definitely a good run by Idris.

The 21-year-old Tanzanian probably became popular on the reality show after having intimate relations with a number of women in the house and always having a free spirit.

On the other hand the Mutare BBA fan club has called for a hero’s welcome for the Zimbabwean duo upon their return.

Mutare BBA fan club spokesperson, Leonard Tsikira, said the duo deserved a big welcome upon their arrival and the now traditional countrywide welcome parties in the honour of those that would have excelled.

Past BBA representatives like Munyaradzi Chidzonga (2010), Wendall Parson (2011), Vimbai Mutinhiri (2011) and urban grooves king, Rockford ‘Roki’ Josphats (2012) had countrywide welcome parties in their honour when they came back.

“It is always a great test of character in the BBA House, but for our representatives they stood their ground all the way to the finals and represented the nation well.

“We are prepared to host in Mutare a big welcome party for the duo just like the tradition for all the previous representatives that shone in the reality show in past years,” said Tsikira.
