HUNDREDS of residents, vendors, students, workers, and Government officials gathered in Mutare Central Business District (CBD) this morning for the launch of a citywide clean-up campaign.
The clean-up initiative was led by the Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza.
The initiative is a crucial step in the city’s preparations for the upcoming Sanganai World Tourism Expo, scheduled to take place from September 10 to 12, 2025.
Themed – Ending Plastic and Textile Pollution – the campaign seeks to transform Mutare into a model of sustainability and hospitality.
Volunteers and other stakeholders collaborated to sweep streets, clear illegal dumps, remove posters, and rejuvenate parks and public spaces ahead of the expo.
“This is not just about beautification – it’s a bold statement of our commitment to sustainable living and our readiness to welcome the world,” said Minister Mugadza, as he emphasised the significance of the initiative.
With hundreds of international delegates, investors, and tourists expected to arrive in Mutare for the expo, the clean-up campaign reflects a broader vision – where environmental stewardship and global tourism go hand-in-hand.
