Mutare Ward 3 by-election set for next month

ZIMBABWE Electoral Commission (ZEC) has set Saturday, August 1, 2026 for the Mutare Municipality Ward Three by-election after four candidates were last week successfully nominated for the poll.
The seat fell vacant following the passing on of Councillor Tichaenzana Maita last month.
ZEC chief elections officer Mr Simbarashe Tongayi made the announcement yesterday.
“It is hereby notified, in terms of Section 125(4) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13], that at the close of sitting of the nomination courts on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, the candidates listed – Farai Arutura (Independent), Portia Gwinyai (ZANU PF), Innocent Mandava (Independent) and Edward Mukambura (MDC) – were duly nominated for election as councilors for Ward Three of Mutare Municipality.
“Therefore, polling shall take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 7am t 7pm for the purpose of election a councillor,” he said.
