Mutare-based traditional dance group Semvumba Arts Ensemble has emerged victorious in the Manicaland provincial finals of the 2025 Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival, earning the honour to represent the province at the upcoming national finals.

The ensemble captivated both judges and audiences over the weekend with their powerful and authentic rendition of the Dinhe dance, a traditional dance rooted in Zimbabwean cultural heritage. Their performance placed them ahead of Chenhaka Dance Group, who showcased the Chinyambera dance and took second place, while Makoni Dance Group claimed third place with their Zhana dance.

With this win, Semvumba Arts Ensemble becomes the second group to secure a place at the national showdown. They now join Undi Gure, the Midlands provincial winners who impressed with their energetic Zambia Nyau dance earlier this month. Undi Gure outshone strong contenders like Rangarirai Pasichigare and Tansh Edutainment among nine competing groups.

The Chibuku Neshamwari competition continues to spotlight Zimbabwe’s rich tapestry of traditional dance, offering local groups a national stage to preserve, celebrate, and share their cultural expressions. – @mthabisi_mthire
