THE construction of a US$30 000 footbridge across the Odzi River has brought immense relief to the remote Nyatsanza and Manyau villages in Ward 17 of Mutasa Central Constituency.

For years, the villages, home to over 4 000 people, would be cut off from the rest of the district during the rainy season, when the Odzi River would swell, making it impossible for learners to attend school and for medical and social services to reach the area.

Thanks to the financial and technical intervention of non-profit organization Africa Trust, in partnership with local legislator Professor Innocent Benza, the new footbridge is set to ensure uninterrupted connectivity for the two marginalized communities.

At the footbridge’s completion ceremony, Africa Trust director Mr Lovermore Mandimutsira said: “This footbridge is a significant milestone for the people of Ward 17, underscoring the importance of developmental projects in Mutasa Central Constituency. We are proud to partner with progressive leaders like Professor Benza.”

Professor Benza added: “Stone by stone, step by step, we are making progress in Mutasa Central. These initiatives are crucial in elevating living standards across the constituency.”

ZANU PF District Coordinating Committee chairman, Cde Washington Ziwiwi expressed gratitude to Africa Trust, for collaborating with the local MP and the community.

Mutasa Rural District Council chairman, Councillor Paddington Nemaunga welcomed the partnership for working with the council to ensure progress in the area.

Chief Senator James Mutasa thanked all stakeholders who made the footbridge a reality, adding that their efforts have alleviated challenges faced by the community.
