Mutasa lands at Whawha?

FORMER Dynamos and FC Platinum coach Lloyd Mutasa was part of the technical team which saw trialists going through their paces in search of jobs at Whawha.

The correctional services side is playing Premiership football for the first time this season.

Mutasa is a sports officer with the organisation.

There was a big turnout of players mainly from the lower division clubs who came and tried their luck at “Chekera Pasi” as the prisons and correctional services outfit is affectionately known.

With no big name to have come for the trials, the spotlight fell on Mutasa who could be seen consulting Whawha coach Luke Petros-Jukulile during the trials.

On the presence of Mutasa at the trials, Whawha chairperson Musa Ntonga said the gaffer was there as technical manager for Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) whose role is to assist in the selection of players.

“He (Mutasa) is coming in to assist in the selection of players as the technical manager. We are yet to negotiate with him. He is a prison officer just like us,” she said.

Ntonga however said Mutasa could be head coach if he was to be roped in since Petros-Jukulile did a good job by guiding the team to the premiership.

Mutasa who exchanged pleasantries with the press wasn’t at liberty to explain his role at the club.

Petros-Jukulile expressed satisfaction with the turnout and was confident that some of the seasoned players will turnout for the trials as the week progresses.

Said Petros-Jukulile: “I’m happy with the turnout. We’re holding trials for a week. We cannot say much for now since the youngsters who want to make a name for themselves are the first ones to turn up and those who have made it will then come later.

“As a club we are happy with this turn out because we also want to inject exciting young blood which can illuminate the scene in the premiership.

“The trials end on Friday from which the club will select the bulk of the team to do duty in the forthcoming season”.
