MWOS might be in an unfamiliar position at the halfway stage of this season but coach Lloyd Mutasa remains upbeat his charges will rise in the second half of the campaign.

The Punters have picked up 25 points from 17 games, nine points short of their tally at this stage last season.

While they went for 16 games unbeaten last season, writing their own fairy-tale, this time around they have lost four times and are sitting mid-table.

However, Mutasa is convinced his boys will be a transformed side in the second half of the 2026 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

They coasted to a comfortable 3-1 victory against Manica Diamonds on Match Day 17.

MWOS might have lost some players at the beginning of the season, including influential midfielder Abubakar Moffat, but Mutasa believes the replacements can do well.

The Punters have roped in giant striker from Namibia, Dawid Ndeunyema, midfielder Macsean Murambiwa and goalkeeper Tadeous Baye.

“First of all, I want to say we only need to thank God for giving us this opportunity to be here.

“And then I want to applaud the boys for such resilience.

“But the good thing in respect of us as coaches, and as a football club, is we have quite a number of players who can step in and play unlike the previous season. “And some of them haven’t played so many games. These days it doesn’t take us a few steps back when other players are injured.”

Mutasa now wants his charges to get into their groove as the business end of the season approaches.

“It was a matter of not getting into the right groove. But, I’m sure if we get another win, two or three wins, we will have a better momentum to go forward.”

The respected coach is also hoping Ndeunyema will deliver more goals in the second half of the season.

The Namibian scored and assisted against Manica Diamonds and was named Man of the Match.

“I think when I talked to Collins, the Namibian national coach, we told him that we’ve got a good youngster who is prepared to learn.

“But we promised him that the next time he goes back to Namibia, he will be a better person,” added Mutasa.

MWOS host FC Hunters at Ngoni tomorrow.
