In a telephone interview from Harare, Cde Mutasa said the matter was likely to be on the agenda at today’s Politburo meeting if the reports about unfolding events in Bulawayo are submitted on time at the party’s headquarters.
“I have not yet received any formal report from Bulawayo. Once we get it maybe it might be discussed at tomorrow’s Politburo meeting but for now I cannot give a comment on the issue,” said Cde Mutasa.
Both Cde Dakamela and Cde Killian Sibanda, who the Provincial Co-ordinating Committee (PCC) elevated to the position of acting chairman, said they sent their reports to Harare yesterday.
The party youths on Monday took away the party vehicle, which was being used by Cde Dakamela on the grounds that he was suspended and should not be using party property.
The vehicle is parked at the offices after the police reportedly intervened and ordered the youths to return the car keys to Cde Dakamela.
The PCC suspended Cde Dakamela on Sunday after passing a vote of no confidence in him at a meeting attended by about 100 members, 14 of them members of the Central Committee.
They accused him, among other things, of defying the party.
The meeting was held at the party provincial headquarters at Davies Hall.
Some people reportedly went to the party offices at night and deflated tyres of Cde Dakamela’s vehicle.
Contacted for comment, the provincial youth chairman, Cde Butholezwe Gatsi, dismissed allegations that the youths had deflated the tyres saying there was no way they could do such a things because they adhered to party principles.
“I am in Harare now but I have not heard anything about vehicle tyres being deflated. What I know is that it is safe and in good condition at the offices.
“Why would youths do such a thing? We are loyal to the party and adhere to principles and in fact we are not doing anything at the moment but waiting for the Politburo to decide on the Dakamela issue,” said Cde Gatsi.
Contacted for comment, Cde Dakamela said he was waiting for the Politburo to decide after sending his report to the party’s headquarters.
“I have sent my documents to the elders and I will wait for them to decide. As for the vehicle, it is at the party offices but I heard they went at night and punctured the wheels. The police told me to take the keys and take away the vehicle with me but I just took the keys and told them I would not take the vehicle to my house because the youths might come and burn it. I am not at work today but heard the wheels were punctured,” he said.
