A good performance was displayed by the Under —14s who played six matches, winning three, drawing once, tied one and lost one.
The teams’ victories were recorded against strong opposition.
The first was a four-wicket victory over Western Province, the second a 25-run win over Free State and the last win was a 26-run victory over North West.
The draw came against Kwa-Zulu Natal.
Against Border, both teams scored 150 runs, and the game ended tied.
The Under-14s only suffered one defeat against Northerns in a Twenty20 fixture, losing that match by 25 runs.
Three formats of cricket were played during the South African Under-13 tournaments.
It had two Declaration matches, two Twenty20 matches and two 50-over matches.
Mutendera was delighted with the opportunity given to the youngsters to play declaration cricket and how they acquitted themselves well.
“I am happy as the coach, the boys were able to contest well in all formats and managed to win a match in each format.
“What was encouraging for me as the coach was the boys getting exposed to playing declaration cricket, which grooms future Test cricketers.
“In Zimbabwe we do not play that format at an early age of 13, so it was pleasing for our boys to record a victory against Western Province, in that format of the game.
“Richard Matewa was outstanding with the bat, scoring three half centuries during the tournament, Taun Harrison, the captain of the team, picked up the most wickets ending with 15 wickets, and was ably supported by Manson Chikowero who finished with 12 wickets.
“What was pleasing for me on this tour was our players getting exposed to all formats of the game of cricket at an early age, which is good for the development of cricket in Zimbabwe.”
He was also happy with the results.
