Mutharika’s death: Malawi declares 10-day mourning period as Joyce Banda assumes power

Elsewhere, the football association of Malawi (FAM) has called off all football activities during the next 10 – day mourning period in respect of the late Mutharika.

The USA had earlier on issued a condolence message to Malawi well before the government had officially announced the death of their president. The condolence message was issued through Assistant Secretary for African Affairs, Johnnie Carson, with the super power expressing concern over the delay in the transfer of power. –Nyasa Times/Malawi Voice/The Herald
