Mutizwa inspires Arrows…as Cleopas Dube finds target in Bots

ZIMBABWEAN strikers, Knox Mutizwa as well as Cleopas Dube were on target in their respective topflight leagues in South Africa and Botswana, with the latter ending on the losing side.

Mutizwa struck the winning goal for his KwaZulu-Natal based Golden Arrows who beat visiting SuperSport United 2-1 on Saturday afternoon at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.

The ex-Highlanders striker won Arrows an 18th minute penalty which Nduduzo Sibiya scored to give
abafana-besthende the lead. Mutizwa then struck in the 41st minute when he broke on the left side and went on to coolly slot the ball past SuperSport United goalie Ricardo Ross.

The Zimbabwean striker went on to be pulled off in the 76th minute after a good shift.

SUPERSPORT United

He was among three Zimbabweans that were on the field, with left backs Divine Lunga of Golden Arrows and SuperSport United’s Onismor Bhasera playing the entire match.

The victory lifted Golden Arrows to position five with 19 points from 15 games, while SuperSport United remained glued on second position with 27 points, 10 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

In Botswana, another former Highlanders striker Cleopas “Balotelli” Dube was on target as his Sua Flamingoes went down 2-1 to BDF XI. The defeat saw Sua Flamingoes slip to position 11 from eight with nine points in 10 outings.
Taurai Mangwiro and Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu led their teams to a perfect start in 2023, registering victories in the Botswana Premiership. Mangwiro’s Orapa United took their points tally to 21 in 10 matches.

The top two sides, leaders Gaborone United (25) and Jwaneng Galaxy (23) were scheduled to clash yesterday evening.
The Mpofu-led Masitaoka edged Extension Gunners 1-0, taking their points tally to 16. Masitaoka are on position six and the victory saw them bouncing to winning ways having lost 2-0 to Gaborone United before the festive break. — @ZililoR
