Blessings Chidakwa recently in Mutoko
Construction of Mutoko Government Complex, a project which commenced in 2001 is set to be completed before year end as the Second Republic continues to prioritise infrastructural development.
The actual construction work is now ongoing with the contractor working round the clock including weekends to complete the project which has been on the cards for more than two decades.
When The Herald visited the complex recently it observed the contractor on site working on the first deck of the complex.
Through devolution funds, various life changing projects have been completed in Mutoko including a state-of-the-art school, clinic and market stalls. This is a major boost to Mutoko Rural District Council, which is eyeing a municipal status.
At Chitora Primary School, 2 x 2 classroom blocks have been built, and these will accommodate close to 150 learners, while Bepeta Clinic has also been built in Ward 1 Charehwa B.
A $23 million borehole drilling rig earmarked for the community was also bought using devolution funds.
In an interview, Mutoko Ward 20 councillor Rabson Jembere said under the Second Republic, the town has experienced massive infrastructural development within a short space of time.
“Under the leadership of President Mnangagwa our lives are changing for the better.
We are seeing improvements in terms of infrastructure development. We are using devolution funds to carry out these projects,” he said.
Cllr Jembere added that the Mutoko Bus Rank, which had become dilapidated was now spruced up with only some finer touches left for completion.
“At the Bus Rank, we did paving. It is almost 85 percent complete. We are also building additional ablution facilities. We initially had one public toilet which could no longer cope up with the increasing demand. The new toilet is at roof level,” he said.
Cllr Jembere said through devolution funds the council managed to build safe vending market stalls.
“We have people plying their trade at undesignated areas so we are building proper market stalls where they will operate freely without clashing with law enforcement agents. One is already complete while the other is more than 90 percent complete,” he said.
Mutoko Engineer Reason Makore said devolution had brought change in terms of service delivery to local authorities and thanked the Second Republic under the stewardship of President Mnangagwa for the smart initiative.
“Our objective is to be leaders in terms of service delivery. We will work harder to provide better welfare for the people of Mutoko since it is our responsibility,” he said.
