A BOLD shift from raw harvests to processed goods must anchor rural transformation, empowering women and smallholder farmers to capture greater market value and ignite local industrial hubs.
Speaking at her ministry’s strategic planning review workshop in Mutare today, Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, emphasised that rural communities must reap higher rewards from their agricultural output.
“When we talk of rural industrialisation, it requires us to go and identify and build the processes so that there is value addition and beneficiation. We can’t just be talking about it, we have to be seen doing it,” said Minister Mutsvangwa, adding that her ministry is exploring equipment support for producers, pointing to banana processing facilities that transform crops into chips and flour to curb post-harvest losses.
These measures align directly with President Mnangagwa’s national development agenda.
