Mutuma has had to content with being a passenger in the City of Roses making up the numbers at training well aware that his efforts will count for nothing as he is still not available for Celtic.
He now faces the sad reality of even completing the season without playing as the Department of Home Affairs is notorious for delaying the issuing of work permits.
Two months have gone by since Mutuma inked his three-and-a-half year contract at Celtic but he is still walking in a corridor of darkness uncertain of when his papers that will then enable his club to register him with the PSL and make him eligible to play will be issued.
Khumbulani Konco, who played as a defender at the club, before working his way up to being a CEO-cum-director, is puzzled as to when Mutuma’s papers will be issued by Home Affairs head office in Pretoria.
Mutuma’s patience is now being stretched to extremes as he has never been through such an experience before in his career.
“We are still waiting because this is a process that we cannot do anything about when we have submitted all the required documents to the relevant authorities,” says Konco.
Phunya Sele Sele have played nine matches since Mutuma – who joined from Zimbabwean champions Dynamos – arrived and with the games now dwindling with each passing week the lanky striker has to merely put up with the training at the club.
“He is continuing to train with the rest of the team in the same way that everyone else is doing because he is a player that belongs to the club,” explains Konco.
The only competitive football that Mutuma has tasted this year was on March 26 when he replaced Abbas Amidu after 57 minutes in the 1-2 World Cup qualifier defeat to Egypt.
While he sits it out at Celtic awaiting his papers his former club Dynamos are having it rough in as far as the business of scoring goals is concerned. — CAJ News.
