Muunga shifts focus to seniors

AS he graduates to the seniors, sprinter Clinton Muunga says he is taking the positives from the just-ended World Athletics Under-20 Championships to lay a foundation for the future.

Muunga represented Zimbabwe in the men’s 100m and 200m.

Although he failed to go past the first round in both events, he says the platform was an eye opener and is grateful for the exposure.

“It’s really sad I couldn’t leave with a new PB (personal best). But I will take this as a foundation I can build something strong from.

“I need to work on my strength and the technical part. These play a huge role at attaining good times. So, the goal is still the same, to work smarter and to double the work ethic.

“Hopefully, I will make it next season,” said Muunga.

The 19-year-old believes that with more exposure to competition, they could have done better at the world junior meet.

“Lack of competition has a huge effect on performance. If only we had managed to get one or two races we could have produced something better,” said Muunga.

On the other hand, Samkeliso Ndebele is now hoping she can make it to the next edition of the Championships scheduled for next year in Cali, Colombia.
