FOLLOWING what he considers a breakthrough performance at the recently concluded 2025 FBC Zimbabwe Open, at Royal Harare Golf Club, Zimbabwean professional golfer, Nyasha Muyambo, is confident he’s turned a corner in his career.

Muyambo was one of only seven local players to make the cut at the country’s flagship golf event. He described the tournament as a major confidence booster and a valuable learning curve as he looks to elevate his career on the Sunshine Tour.

The Zimbabwe Open served as the season opener for the 2025/26 Sunshine Tour. Muyambo, a regular on the circuit, said the experience he has gained playing on the Tour helped him finally conquer a course that has long posed challenges.

“It was a great experience —it’s the first tournament of the Sunshine Tour season. I’m proud of myself for making the cut. There are a lot of positives to take from this week. I definitely believe I can do better. Now, it’s back to preparation and focus for next year.

“I’ve really struggled with this course in the past, but the Sunshine Tour has taught me a lot. I learned from that experience — playing with the guys, understanding how they set up courses — and used it to improve my game,” said Muyambo.

Muyambo closed the tournament on four-over-par 292. While he will skip this week’s Kit Kat Cash and Carry event at Irene Country Club, he confirmed that he will continue tracking the Sunshine Tour calendar and expects to feature in most of the winter events.

“It was a huge step for my confidence and my game, and I’m proud to have made the people around me — who’ve shaped me into the golfer I am — proud as well. That’s what we train for: to be in these positions and represent our country and families at the highest level.

“I’m now an affiliate member of the Sunshine Tour. I narrowly missed out on full status, but I’m on track to qualify for most of the winter events. I’ll miss the Irene tournament, but I’ll play the next one in Benoni.”

In a light-hearted moment, Muyambo said he can finally share bragging rights with his legendary father, Day Muyambo, who often reminded him that he had never made the cut at the Zimbabwe Open.

“At least now, I can sit at the same table with my dad. He always used to say I hadn’t made the cut at the Open, but now we can talk about it properly,” said Muyambo.

The 2025 FBC Zimbabwe Open was won by Mexico’s Luis Carrera.
